Expert ADAS Calibration Services

PRIORITIZING YOUR SAFETY

After a windshield replacement, we will recalibrate your advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to ensure your vehicle is safe to drive.

Professional ADAS Calibration

Most modern vehicles come equipped with specialized cameras and sensors to provide safety features such as collision warning and lane departure warning. Some of these cameras are mounted on or near your windshield. And if your windshield is replaced, even the slightest difference in the angle of the glass can cause these advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to malfunction. That’s why ADAS calibration services are necessary after windshield replacement.

At Fix Auto Glass Minnesota, we specialize in ADAS calibration to make sure your safety systems work as intended. Our technicians are experienced in both dynamic calibration and static calibration—we’ll let you know which is right for your vehicle.

What Is ADAS?

ADAS, or advanced driver-assistance systems, comprise the cameras, sensors, and other safety features that observe your vehicle’s surroundings and help protect you from hazards. Common ADAS features include automatic emergency braking, lane assist, and pedestrian detection. These features are critical for keeping you and others safe on the road. At Fix Auto Glass Minnesota, our skilled technicians know how to recalibrate your ADAS systems to make sure your vehicle is ready to drive.

There are two types of ADAS calibration: dynamic and static. Your vehicle manufacturer will determine which option is necessary. Some vehicles require both types of calibration.

Dynamic ADAS Calibration

Dynamic ADAS calibration is performed while driving the vehicle. It requires specific speed constraints and clear road conditions to allow your cameras and sensors to read road lines. Your systems will then calibrate themselves using your vehicle’s on-board computer. The technicians at Fix Auto Glass Minnesota can perform dynamic calibration for you at your location.

Static ADAS Calibration

Static ADAS calibration must be performed in our controlled collision center environment. Placing the vehicle on a perfectly level floor, we place physical targets at specific distances to precisely calibrate the cameras and sensors. We then perform road tests to ensure all systems are working properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

ADAS CALIBRATION FAQS

We are experts in ADAS calibration. Here are our answers to some common questions!

Why is ADAS calibration necessary?

Advanced driver assistance systems rely on a windshield-mounted camera. When the windshield is replaced, the angle of that camera may change slightly. But even small changes can impact safety systems’ perceptions of your vehicle’s surroundings. ADAS calibration is necessary to make sure these systems can detect hazards accurately.

What happens if I choose not to calibrate my windshield camera?

Skipping calibration is a severe safety risk. Even a slight misalignment can cause your safety systems to miscalculate distances drastically. For example, an uncalibrated camera might mistake a shadow for an obstacle and trigger emergency breaking, or it might fail to detect a vehicle in front of you altogether. Many modern vehicles will turn on an error light or disable your driver-assist features entirely until calibration is completed.

What is the difference between static and dynamic calibration?

Depending on your vehicle’s make and model, it will require one of two calibration methods (or sometimes both). Static calibration is performed inside a highly controlled collision center environment using physical targets to align the camera. Dynamic calibration is performed while driving the vehicle on the road at specific speeds under clear conditions, letting the camera observe road lines to calibrate itself.

Does my auto insurance cover ADAS calibration?

Yes, almost always! If your windshield replacement is covered, then the cost of ADAS calibration will be covered too. Insurance companies recognize that calibration is a necessary safety procedure.

How much extra time does ADAS calibration add to a windshield replacement?

ADAS calibration can take anywhere from 30 minutes to three hours, depending on the complexity of the system and the type(s) of calibration that need to be done. We can give you a more accurate time estimate once we learn your vehicle’s make and model.

Professional and courteous. They beat their initial time estimate by a couple of days. The repair looks great, better than it looked before our car got hit. And they even painted a scratch that wasn't technically part of the claim just to blend it in. Great service all the way around.

Fix Auto was amazing! Their communication was great! The people are friendly and knowledgeable! When I received my car back they cleaned my windows, vacuumed and everything which I wasn’t expecting so that was the cherry on top! Definitely a great place to trust with your vehicle.
